English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Kelpie/Porridge/Broiled with Sauce”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Something’s fishy on this new dungeon level! The crew crosses a treacherous lake, encountering vicious seafood and fallen adventurers along the way.

Our Take:

This week’s episode has Laios and his crew journeying through the dungeon’s fourth floor, where they come across a gigantic lake. Not only that, but they also encounter another batch of new cuisines that’ll take them under the sea or, in this case, above it. Of course, I’m talking about seafood: a water horse known as a Kelpie, a porridge made from a fishman’s barley wig, and a giant Kraken threatening the dungeon’s ecosystem. I usually like eating seafood occasionally, so this episode quickly hits home for me. Of course, I prefer my seafood cooked and broiled instead of raw, which Laios sadly learned after eating the Kraken and parasite without cooking them.

The episode also showcased more of Kabru and his group of adventurers, who were last seen in the fifth episode. It turns out that they’re still alive from their encounter with the Treasure Bugs. Unfortunately, their luck was short-lived yet again, as they were found unconscious on the fourth floor, possibly from the floor’s monsters. From the looks of this, I’m convinced they’re not as prepared as they thought. If Kabru and the others lived through this, they should probably stick with Laios’s group for the remaining journey the next time they encountered them.

I also enjoyed the episode for developing the friendship between Marcille and Senshi, with the latter being a little iffy about her magic. But, as it turns out, it was due to Senshi’s dirty beard making him ineffective to Marcille’s magic. It’s as stupid as it sounds, but I couldn’t help but laugh at this fact anyway. It also showcased Marcille showing empathy toward Senshi after almost getting killed by a Kelpie he once called his friend, emphasizing Senshi’s trust in monsters being tested. Moments like this make Delicious in Dungeon more than just a random series of how-to-cook scenarios, along with its animation and comedy. So, I guess you can say this episode made a big splash for me.
