English Dub Review: Classroom of the Elite “Fortune favors the bold.”

Overview:

It turns out the one spreading the rumors was Hashimoto, who did so at the behest of Sakayanagi. Shortly after that, Sakayanagi appears before Class C and she informs them she has evidence regarding the rumors about Ichinose.

Our Take:

This is going to be an interesting episode to review because, on one hand, I have a personal experience that made this episode have a bigger impact than it might have otherwise. But also the rumor about Ichinose was so lame that I don’t know why it was a big deal in the first place. I don’t know everything about Japanese culture so maybe shoplifting is a way bigger deal there than other places but that was Ichinose’s big secret.

It felt like a situation where they were making a mountain out of a molehill. Ichinose’s family was poor and her mother worked herself sick. Ichinose wanted to get her sister a nice birthday present and couldn’t get a job since she was in middle school so she felt like she had no choice but to steal the gift. I understood this better than most because my brother got in trouble for stealing a Christmas gift for me once, so Ichinose’s plight hit a little close to home for me.

I just couldn’t help but feel like “That’s it?” I thought she would have done something way worse for people to think they could get her expelled or something. It was an interesting episode and thanks to Ayanokoji’s machinations it seems he has another pawn he can use in his plans.
