English Dub Review: BUCCHIGIRI?! “Stop the War! ~Sometimes You Gotta Eat Goya Chanpuru~”

Overview:

A war is about to break out between Siguma Squad and Minato Kai.

Our Take:

Siguma Squad and Minato Kai are about to go to war. Matakara tries to get Arajin to talk some sense into Marito. He wants nothing to do with it. That is, until Matakara gets Mahoro to convince him. He agrees, but he runs into Akutarou Shindo on the way. Then a fight breaks out between the two.

I swear, I like this show less every episode. Arajin refuses to listen to his childhood friend, but he’ll bend over backwards for the girl he likes. She has made it obvious time and time again that she doesn’t like him in that way, but he’s too stupid and pathetic to get it through his head. I don’t know why he doesn’t like Matakara anymore, but I can’t imagine it’s a good reason judging by the rest of his actions so far.

Matakara is a much better and more likeable character. He’s gotten the most backstory out of everyone so far and he’s not even the main character. The show would be a lot more enjoyable if he were though. I guess it’s kind of interesting to see Mahoro understand him a little more once she finds out he also has an older brother. That doesn’t redeem her in any way though.

Kakeru Zabu, one of the Minato Kai members, could have helped diffuse the situation between the two gangs. Shindo attacked him and stole his armband, which started this whole thing. He was too ashamed to say anything to anybody. He does tell Matakara toward the end of the episode, but it feels too late at that point. Maybe Siguma Squad wouldn’t have believed him, but it still would have made sense to try and clear things up.

At least the entertaining side characters are still here to keep this show afloat a little bit. It has the potential to get a little more interesting, but Arajin and Mahoro are still the biggest problems with it. It’ll be hard for me to fully enjoy this show until or unless they improve.
