English Dub Review: Banished From The Hero’s Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside “The Man Who Doesn’t Get Chill Living”

Overview

Danan, who’s been undergoing medical treatment, is on the mend. Before leaving town, Danan asks to arrange a deal with Red. Red readily accepts and a special training camp with the former hero party commences.

Our Take

Tisse reveals the Cardinal’s desire to take possession of the airship from Red and Rit, And while Red is ok with this, he believes that the Cardinal must first share his legitimate intentions for it. Meanwhile, Danan’s health is improving, and before the group departs, he proposes a sparring match with Red, igniting a new phase of training guided by the veteran heroes.

And while most of the episode is spent on a camping trip to train themselves, the real action unfolds during the sparring match between Danan and Red. Although Red manages to hold his own for a brief moment, Danan quickly demonstrates his superiority. The subsequent match between Danan and Ruti adds a touch of comedic relief with its swift conclusion. As for that cliffhanger at the end, it’s clear that the Cardinal isn’t the best role model for Van who sounds like a brainwashed cult member in this scenario given how dismissive he is towards the way he dealt with a certain criminal, and that’s putting it mildly…

Overall, while this “training camp” story was quite fun and served well to bolster their skills in prep for the “New hero’s” arrival, I can do without the random nude scene of Ruti in a waterfall as I’m left wondering what the purpose of that was. I at least liked how this episode effectively reminded viewers of the moral complexities tied to the show’s universe, especially concerning the constraints of “Blessings” and their impact on free will. And while someone like Ruti could overwrite or dampen it the way she did, I can’t say the same for people like Van who seems obsessed with fulfilling a specific role he perceives as his “chosen destiny”, even if his sense of justice is a bit warped and off-putting, which feels like all of this could lead to something really brutal in later episodes as everything seems to culminate to this moment of him going to Zoltan to possibly start some shit. And I look forward to seeing how this plays out!
