Season Review: Masters of the Universe: Revolution
The first season of this Masters of the Universe continuation was an absolute banger. There were a lot of twists and turns from season one, and the writing did everything so well, I wanted to go back and re-watch the original. Everything from Adam dying, to Preternia falling was twist after shock after twist. If the series ended there, I would have been completely happy. It was a good ending. Everyone got what they want.
With Revolution we get more progression. How were they going to step up and give us something as big as when Adam died in the first episode of Revelations? You don’t because then it would be change for the sake of change. Instead, the mythos expands even more. Let’s be honest here. Kevin Smith shows how much he cares about Masters of the Universe. This man goes deep on the lore and throwbacks. He takes the tropes of the universe, and twists them just enough to make things fresh.
The only question is this: is there going to be a sequel to this? Because when “The Scepter and the Sword” was going through the epilogue, there was a sense of finality with everything going on. The monarchy is over, the effects of the Havoc Staff and Mother Board were purified by He-Man, and he’s chilling in the dungeon in Castle Greyskull. The one thing that got me, though, was that Hordak was being rebuilt with technology. There was just enough to go “wait, will there be more?”
Kevin Smith hits the jackpot here, but the only thing I would have wanted was more. Five episodes doesn’t feel like it was enough. Going from the intro, to a plot twist, to an invasion, to the climax and everything in-between was jammed into five-25 minute episodes. There needed to be more time to breathe and develop and that doesn’t even get into how Teela became the tri-sorcerer in three episodes. That just feels like something that should have taken a lot more than just three episodes to get the staffs and learn their powers. I need to know what happens to the Eternians after they get their freedom from the monarchy. I need to know where things go for Kelder. and does Compu-Hordak come back to be even worse for Eternia? And do we get to go back to Preternia?
I am hoping for a continuation of Revolution. While there is a definite sense of finality, there is just enough to demand more episodes. Give us what we want, Kevin Smith.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
