English Dub Review: The Apothecary Diaries “The New Pure Consort”

Overview:

Ah-Duo’s replacement has arrived in the rear palace, and Maomao is assigned to give a certain lecture to all four high concubines. Later, Maomao helps Lihaku investigate a warehouse explosion.

Our Take:

Maomao put the concubines through a class on how to best… umm… please the Emperor if you catch my drift. I have to say that the new concubine intrigues me because while everyone had some sort of reaction to have towards the subject material she was stone faced. Something tells me she’s going to become an important character later on. But for now at least Maomao has more important things to worry about.

There was a warehouse explosion and Maomao does her best Sherlock Holmes impression as she tries to discern how the event could have happened. At the very least she figures out HOW it happened but I think all of us as viewers are more interested in WHO did the deed. We’re led to believe that some angry man we can’t see yet did it but I have a feeling there will be more to this story in the next episode. Maomao seems to realize there is more to this than meets the eye but she seems more interested in selling the pipe she found at the crime scene.
