English Dub Review: Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! “Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!”
Overview:
Shiki Tsubasa has just moved from Tokyo to Kitami in Hokkaido. When he gets lost, a flirty gal named Fuyuki Minami points him in the right direction. After the two meet again at school, Minami invites Tsubasa to hang out with her at home.
Our Take:
I love rom-coms and I’ve been hearing many great things about this series but I couldn’t help but think “It can’t be that good”. But after one episode it just might be. So far, the voice talent is knocking it out of the park. Matt Shipman is always a good choice but I have to shout out to Mikaela Krantz who voices Minami. Hokkaido and Okinawa accents are always interesting when it comes to dubbing. In manga they usually get written similarly to our Southern accent. But Mikaela’s interpretation was that of someone from Minnesota and I loved it.
My only worry about this series is that it seems like it’s going to go the harem route. Sure, you can have harem elements in a series with there being only one main couple like My First Girlfriend is a Gal but I don’t know if that will be the case. It’s only been one episode and I think Tsubasa and Minami are the couple of the season already, so I hope we get to just focus on them.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
