English Dub Review: Heaven Official’s Blessing “A Thousand Miles Away”; “The Green-Clothed Ghost Qi Rong”

Overview:

Hua Cheng leads Xie Lian away from the Heavenly Realm. Meanwhile, Feng Xin and Mu Qing encounter many obstacles while attempting to rescue him, and Lang Qianqiu has a plan of his own.

Xie Lian and Hua Cheng enter the lair of the Night-Touring Green Lantern, Qi Rong. After a brief, violent confrontation, Qi Rong reveals the truth about the Yong’an massacre but other surprising truths are also told.

Our Take:

There’s a lot of stuff going on and some of it is pretty gross. A bunch of corpses were hanging from a cave ceiling which was weird in itself but when one of the characters responded by sayig something about “curing meat” that was when it got uncomfortable. Like ohhh that is what you would probably do and it was creepy. Hua Cheng did the right thing and turned them all into ashes but something tells me that this little arc is going to be creepy and while you may not think it based on how I started this paragraph I am looking forward to that.

This one of the few animated series I’ve watched that managed to do “creepy” right so I have high hopes for the next couple of episodes. Not only that but it looks like the Hua Cheng and Xie Lian ship is getting closer and closer to sailing. For a series that the yaoi content was it’s main selling point there has been very little of that content. But I think that will also be changing soon, it was good to get back into the swing of things with this series.
