English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “Smells Like Trouble”; “Long-Lived Friends”

Overview:

When the party happens upon a town whose inhabitants are all mysteriously asleep, it’s time for their newest traveling companion to prove his mettle.

Frieren pays a visit to Old Man Voll, a long-lived friend of hers, with traveling companions in tow.

Our Take:

Damn, I missed this anime, it has to be the anime of the year. The only tricky thing about is which year? It started airing in 2023, but it will get a decent way into 2024 as well. I’m telling you if you love good storytelling, comedy, action, fantasy, and maybe a sprinkle of romance, that is all here to be enjoyed. This will go down as one of the best anime of all time I promise you, I haven’t watched a single episode of this series and thought “Oh… that was okay, not necessary but okay” Every single episode has a story to tell. Even the one-off episodes, hell I would argue the one-off episodes tell the most impactful stories.

Maybe storytelling isn’t for you and all you look for is some eye candy. You want to see some bad ass animation and fight scenes. I’ll admit that the fight scenes in this are a little few and far between but when you get one, it is beautiful. There has only been a couple of frames of this series that I would say are even close to “bad”. There was a dance scene in one of these episodes and you could tell it was CGI a little bit but other than that this series has been practically flawless. If you only listen to my recommendations on one anime let it be this one.
