English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Living Armor”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Laios and crew access a hidden area guarded by the mysterious Living Armor, who appears to be protecting something potentially dangerous.
Our Take:
It’s not a dungeon-crawling series without a moment or two involving crawling inside dungeons and defeating monsters. Delicious in Dungeon spent the previous two episodes focusing on the characters making creature-related cuisines, resulting in some compelling comedic moments. While this week’s episode continues to provide this concept, it focuses more on the crew confronting a monster as they venture deeper into the dungeon-like world. However, this monster plays a vital part in Laios’ past.
As Laios searches for a decorative cross for his sword, he reminisces about his time with Falin and them joining the Gold Strippers in exploring the same dungeon. However, they came across an army of living armor protecting the mysterious room behind them, which is how he got his sword and survived to tell the tale. This episode has Laios confronting that fear once more while obsessing over what the armor would taste like. Spoiler alert: it’s not possible to eat armor. That thing would crack your teeth into a million pieces. However, it turns out that the living armor army was protecting their eggs, leading Laios to discover that the mollusks were controlling them within the armor’s layers. At least they have much of a taste compared to the armor they’re controlling.
“Living Armor” is another solid example of elevating a concept with character moments and Trigger’s animation style, with the latter being for the battle sequence between Laios and the leader of the Living Armor army. For the former, we learned more about Laios’ past with Falin before she became the Red Dragon’s supper. While it doesn’t provide much emotional depth into this tallman sibling relationship, it does reflect Laios’ strive to rescue his sister. If only his excitement over what every creature would taste like doesn’t keep getting in the way.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
