Review: Rick and Morty Presents: MeeSeeks, P.I. Issue #2

Overview

In the second installment of Meeseeks, PI, we see our daring detective continue to explore his noir side in his tireless search for the inter-dimensional cable remote that Jerry has misplaced. But first, waffles!

Rick’s inter-dimensional cable box scheme is about to start paying off – it’s almost time for Universe C-4898’s Annual Glooprbowl.
It’s promising to be a big money match – The Squeglings have netted Mipple Bippple as their Quasar-Pack in a surprise mid-season trade. Rick is the only one trading in cable boxes, and you better believe that he’s taking bets on the side.

When a promising new lead lands in their laps, Meeseeks and Jerry decide to go catch a movie. The same goons that roughed them up earlier are still following them, and it seems like they work for some shady-ass version of Rick that is also probably just our Rick. Many, many Meeseeks perish as the investigation plows onward.

Our Take
First of all, Meeseeks, PI, always looks adorable, whether he’s scarfing down waffles at Din-Din’s Diner, doodling a little dog, or demanding answers from sketchy suspects. In a good detective story, the way in which the detective goes about solving the case is equally as important as the eventual solution. It’s fun to watch Meeseeks try to solve this case – he exists only to solve the case of the missing remote, he doesn’t care about other, much more serious crimes, he’s got a great attitude, and he might not even be a detective!
Also, in terms of the mystery of the missing remote, it seems like perhaps it has somehow become ensnared in Rick’s cable box caper, but it is equally likely that Jerry has just lost it in  the living room somewhere. Also possible – some other, third thing happened to it. While Jerry and Meeseeks bumble around in search of one little remote,  Rick rapidly builds his illegal cable box empire, aided by Summer and Morty.
We also learn about some of the other specialized Meeseeks out there, beyond ‘detective’ and ‘regular’  – Red means Assassin Meeseeks, for example. It’s like Gremlins 2, basically. How do Red Meeseeks stack up in comparison to Red Gooblers? Nobody knows. Will the remote turn out to be the key to the whole thing, or will it be just another Maltese Falcon? Will Rick win big on game day? Is Meeseeks, P.I. more defective than detective? We shall see!!
And lastly, Jerrycules, the little monster that begs Rick for table scraps, is the absolute best.
