Review: The Ghost and Molly McGee “White Christmess; Perfect Day”

Overview

“White Christmess”

Scratch (Dana Snyder) stresses about getting Molly the perfect gift.

“Perfect Day”

Molly asks Scratch to cast a time-loop curse so she can have a perfect day.

Our Take

The first episode takes place on Christmas Eve as Scratch struggles to get Molly a gift and may have to take matters into his own hands. Much of the humor seems relatable and gives off a legit sense of urgency as we’ve all been in a situation where we have to think of a quick last minute gift, even resorting to the obligatory disney song. Predictably sometimes the best gifts don’t even have to be spelled out at the end of the day with a running joke involving a “Christmas Llama”…

As for the latter episode, much of it followed a lot of the same beats as the Bill Murray classic “Groundhog Day” Except in their universe the film is called “Time Loop Rodent” which was played for laughs. Each time the curse gives her a chance to do-over the first day of new years, weird stuff begins to happen, but at the end of the day. the “perfect day” sometimes falls into place when you least expect it…

Overall, both holiday specials were unique and interesting in different ways. Dana Snyder shows his range as a voice actor even when he’s playing a sometimes wacky yet cynical jerk. They also showed some moments of humor, heart and decent parodies of some decent movies. And that while the natural order of things may have an ugly start, sometimes they have a unique way of working themselves out.
