Review: Krapopolis “Ty’s Tail Tale”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Tyrannis joins Shlub for his dad’s funeral, where he finds out he was cursed as a kid…to NOT have a tail. Once growing one, he gains a greater sense of confidence that overtakes him until Shlub humbles him and rips it off. Meanwhile, Hippocampus and Stupendous search for Pegasuses to milk.
OUR TAKE
You know, it actually had not occurred to me that none of the main cast are human. Obviously Shlub is a centaur/manticore combo and Deliria is a goddess, which then means that their children, including the ones they don’t have with each other, would be other combinations. So despite looking like the most normal among them, Tyrannis is actually part goddess and part…Shlub, the latter of which is now getting some focus by delving more into that side of Tyrannis’ genetics and, more importantly, how that shows us more of his character. We’ve seen him be pretty avoidant in terms of conflict and feeling powerless at times, especially compared to his giant sister and goddess mother, as well as his father who can fly and sting people. In this episode, we see what it’s like when the usually not very powerful king actually gets some power. To fight back (against Keith David’s Asskill, who we hadn’t seen in awhile and I was kinda afraid we wouldn’t see again) to influence his citizens (thankfully towards democracy because he’s well meaning at the end of the day), and also get pretty much taken over by it, as is apparently a trait of manticores in this universe. Maybe there’s more they can explore with Tyrannis’ unique genetics and see how it’s possibly at odds with his ethics to rule and push things more towards a democratic government. Just something to put in the wishlist for the next two seasons!
It’s also neat to see Hippocampus and Stupendous getting another b plot that’s just them doing some fun stuff. Once this season is over, I think I’ll do a tally of which characters got paired up more and sort it out by A plots and B plots. This is the first season, out of at least a confirmed three, so things are still settling into place and the show may not fully have found itself yet, so it’s interesting to see it try character combos out and test the waters for things to come. I don’t know how much of Seasons two and three are written or in the can just yet, so I wonder if there’s any attention being paid to what people are responding to more and how it might get featured more or less in future seasons. Maybe people will like the stuff going on with Daphne and the mystical creatures trying to fight back against the growing of civilization, or they might want to meet more gods, or maybe they’ll just want more slice of life comedy. Whatever the case, we’re off for another two weeks, so we’ll see you back here then for episode 11!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
