Red Iron Road Gets Long-Awaited Premiere Date

 

Lakeside Animation has announced that Prime Video, Tubi, and Plex will be the international AVOD streamers that will get a chance to showcase Red Iron Road’s first season. starting on December 19 The show’s second season is already in production and is expected to stream a year from now.

Red Iron Road is an animated anthology series, based on the works of famous European authors. The content explores dark themes through horror/thriller adaptations of short stories from literature, some of which were originally written in the 1800’s. There will be 6 episodes in the first season, between 10-20 minutes, produced with different creative partners, using a variety of animation techniques with an entirely unique visual style designed to suit each story. Aljosha Klimov and Iouri Stepanov created the series but a number of different producers make up the crew across the half-a-dozen episodes that you can see synopses for below:

EP 01 VRDLK: FAMILY OF VURDULAK

A traveller caught in a snowstorm is forced to take shelter with a poor Serbian family. When the family warns him of “beasts” that hunt in the night, he mistakenly dismisses their fears as superstition and fairy tales.

EP 02 THE FOREST KING

A young boy’s desire for success and status in a VR game leads him into a terrifying new reality.

EP 03 THE RATCATCHER’S DAUGHTER

Using defining moments in history, rats are trying to seize power all over the world. 1920, in Petrograd, the rats decide it is time to rise from the underground.

EP 04 THE UNDERTAKER Directed by Sergei Kibus of Nukufilm (Estonia)

Adrian the Undertaker, a gloomy and silent man, doesn’t have many friends. Nevertheless he decides to throw a party and invites only his favourite people: his deceased clientele.

EP 05 LORD Directed by Aljosha Kilmov (Germany) & Hirofumi Nakada (Japan)

Environmental disasters, wars, and epidemics led to the near destruction of human civilization. The survivors of the disaster have built new cities and settlements and battle mutant foes for supremacy.

Citizens from the well-fed, fenced off city can only venture beyond the walls on a train that distributes humanitarian aid. One reporter is determined to find out what really happens outside the city.
