English Dub Review: The Faraway Paladin The Lord of the Rust Mountains “A Brief Return Home” ;“Asleep Beneath the Water”

Overview:

Will and his companions set out for the Rust Mountains to fight the dragon Valacirca. On the way, they pass by the City of the Dead, so Will decides to stop and visit his old home.

As the party rests in the City of the Dead, Gus warns Will about how dangerous Valacirca is and tells him it’s okay to turn back. But Will’s mind is made up. All Gus can do is send him on his way with a word of advice…

Our Take:

On one hand, it’s nice to get a little break during the holidays when some of the dubs take a break but then when they come back it’s almost always two or more episodes. It’s nice to get to watch them but reviewing that many at once can be tough, but luckily the Saturday slate of anime is so good I’m able to power through.

The best part of the episode was getting to see Gus again and seeing a few flashbacks to when Will was a child. It had been a while since I saw the first season and I had forgotten that Merry and Blood were no longer with Gus it made me a little sad but Gus seems to be enjoying his afterlife still.

Seeing Will in action is always a treat but getting to see Ru come into his own and become a brave and strong fighter was awesome. Character development in this series has been pretty good so far and I look forward to seeing not only Ru but Will and others grow as the series progresses. I’m with Gus in hoping that Will finds a lady to love sometime soon as well.
