English Dub Review: The Ancient Magus’ Bride “Give a thief enough rope and he’ll hang himself.”

Overview:

As Lizbeth’s plans near fruition, Philomela thinks about what she wants.

Our Take:

For a second there they had me going, I was worried we were going to get a tragic backstory about Philomela’s grandmother, Lizbeth but luckily the flashback we got about her just made me dislike her even more. She never viewed her son as more than something she needed to have to keep her status. I had a feeling we would at least see that she loved her son and that losing him was so unbearable that she treated her granddaughter poorly, but no that wasn’t the case.

Philomela finally did what we’ve been begging her to do this whole time, she asked for help! Which if you know anything about Chise you would know that she will never leave a friend behind who needs help. There aren’t too many episodes left but I hope we at least get to see Philomela have a bit of a normal time and get to spend some time just being a student. She’s had to shoulder too many burdens in her life and now that Alcyone has been released by whatever spell her grandmother placed on her she also gets her protector back.
