English Dub Review: The Ancient Magus’ Bride “A burnt child dreads the fire.”

Overview:

While Zoe fights off the werewolf, the other students finally reach Philomela. Chise dives into her dark memories, but as everyone’s secrets begin to unravel, Philomela hesitates to take her classmates’ outstretched hands.

Our Take:

I think in the next few episodes we are going to have to have a lot of forgiveness between a lot of different people for this to have a happy ending. I’m not saying it has to have a happy ending but that would be nice for Philomela at the very least. Admittedly, there were parts of this that I didn’t understand because it made it seem like Philomela was responsible for Lucy’s family getting killed but I don’t think that’s possible. I think the main problem was it was her family that did it but if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that no one probably hates Philomela’s family as much as Philomela.

Seeing Chise and Philomela as little kids was some cuteness I wasn’t prepared for. Of course, it came under the backdrop of extreme trauma so it balanced out the mood pretty well. In one of the memories, Philomela’s grandmother treated her well and I have to say I hope we don’t get a backstory about how she’s a good person. Let’s just let her be an old evil bitch.
