English Dub Review: The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You “Saying Hello to the Chemistry Girl”

Rentarou meets Kusuri Yakuzen and finds out about her obsession.

Our Take:

Rentarou finds his fifth soulmate in Kusuri Yakuzen. She’s a chemistry club member who’s obsessed with drugs. She references the hard drugs, but says that she’s never tried those. Instead, she likes making and experimenting with her own concoctions. She subjects Rentarou and the other girls to her drugs as well. Her biggest blunder is when the other girlfriends accidentally ingest her tea that turns them into zombies who only want to kiss their lover.

Kusuri is my least favorite of Rentarou’s girlfriends so far. She’s still entertaining and she’s certainly unique, even compared to the other girls. regardless, I’m mixed on how I feel about her obsession with drugs. I’m not big on the fact that she’ll use other people as guinea pigs even if they don’t want to participate. Rentarou says he doesn’t want to use drugs to assist in his relationship with Kusuri, but she disobeys that.

I’m also mixed on her appearance. Most of the time, she appears as a little kid. Her actual appearance is a lot more mature-looking and she’s actually older than Rentarou. This whole show is really weird, so I’m not completely opposed to it. It just feels odd to me even though it does line up with the rest of the show’s logic. The show’s logic is also why I’m not nit-picky about how Kusurui seems to be making potions instead of drugs.

This is still a good episode and it has more hilarious scenes to offer. I might not be fully on board with Kusuri’s drugs, but the scene where the other girls try them out is pretty enjoyable. The kissing zombie apocalypse will carry over into the next episode, so it’ll be interesting to see how that gets resolved.
