English Dub Review: Spy X Family “The Hand That Connects to the Future”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Yor finishes off the last of the assassins with Anya’s help, but Loid finds out there’s a bomb on the ship and takes care of that. The Forgers depart the ship, with Yor bidding farewell to the family she helped protect.
OUR TAKE
Huh, I actually figured the arc would last a little longer, especially since we still have three episodes left in the season…kind of like with Dr. Stone, which I’m also reviewing. I mean, don’t stretch the story past when it needs to end of course, and we did definitely reach a natural end point, but…yeah, it’s over after only five episodes. It was still a great use of five episodes, with us getting a fun and entertaining scenario for the Forgers to end up on with emphasis on Yor and her growing affection and attachment for her makeshift family alongside some excellent fight scenes to highlight that this show can get into the action when it wants to. In addition, Loid and Anya get to have some wholesome and funny father and daughter time, as well as getting in on the action at the very end, letting the whole family save the day. So, not only are they all a loving family who care and look out for each other, but their collective experience with spy organizations makes them a good team, even when they don’t know they are. Lord knows how much they could accomplish if they had to, say, defend themselves from the organizations they came from and fight together. But I’m sure they’ll never have to do that.
With the arc concluded, I’m kinda bummed we’ll probably be going back to self-contained episodes for the remainder of the season, but they also have a movie coming out soon so maybe that had an impact on things? I wish I had more things to say about this arc that I hadn’t said a few times already. To be clear, I have liked the arc very much, and should probably go back and watch that first season one of these days if I ever plan to watch the movie. I’m quite invested in the Forger Family figuring out how to be a solid family unit, as well as how they will still need to navigate balancing their spy and assassin jobs on top of their cover jobs AND raising a daughter, who is the only one among them that knows her parents are BOTH in rival agencies. This arc on the cruise ship looks like it’ll be the only one of major substance we’ll be getting, but I’m sure future seasons will dive more into this unique family dynamic more. But for now, we get back to the comedy.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
