English Dub Review: Goblin Slayer “Once There Was Youth, Now There Is Nothing but Ash”

Overview:

After returning from a mission without goblins, Goblin Slayer and the others are tasked with being the archbishop Sword Maiden’s bodyguards to protect her from goblins on her trip to the capital.

Our Take:

I know that it’s a bit of an old gag by now but I love how upset Goblin Slayer gets when there are no goblins on a quest he goes on. It’s clear he annoys everyone around him with it, he wanted to drop the quest altogether but his party wouldn’t let him because it was too important. But when he returned he gave the guild lady crap by telling her that there were no goblins, you can tell these people are true friends because despite his weirdness they all still love hanging out with him.

The first few minutes of the episode seemed like something that happened in the past but there was one character I recognized. There is a side story series set in this world called Goblin Slayer: Daikatana and one of the adventurers shown looked like the main character in that. That is where my knowledge of that series ends but I will say I’ve seen that same character in the opening of the show so I have a feeling it might be relevant soon.
