English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “A Real Hero”

Overview:

Deep in the mountains of the northern lands, Frieren and her party arrive at the Village of the Sword, where they have another job to do.

Our Take:

This show continues to just kill it every single week. The characters, and little stories that get weaved around them are always great and I’ve been brought to tears almost every week. There was only one minor thing that I wanted to see but didn’t and I’ll get into that in a second.

Almost every episode we get a little bit more backstory on Frieren and her time in Himmel’s party. We come to find out that the “Hero Sword” that Himmel had was just a replica and not the real deal. He tried to pull the sword from the stone and it wouldn’t budge. But he went on to kill the Demon King anyways and I really love the message that sends. My only problem was that the sword was still there waiting to be pulled but we didn’t even see Stark try to pull it, I didn’t need him to get it but I wanted to see him try.

We learned a bit about Stark’s family and I got some Sasuke/Itachi vibes when it came to his relationship with his brother. Only in Stark’s case it was a demon that killed his whole family instead of his brother. At least as of now that’s the case but check back later I suppose.

Stark’s birthday happened during this episode and as we know he doesn’t really view himself as “warrior” material. For his birthday, Frieren made him a giant Hamburg Steak dinner that Eisen gave her the recipe to. Come to find out that Eisen would make one for Stark every year on his birthday and even his brother did the same thing. We learn that a Hamburg Steak is a meal for a “warrior who put in the work” and when I tell you I was sobbing I couldn’t see the screen. Never thought a scene involving a Hambur Steak would do that but never say never.

Happy Birthday Stark!!!
