English Dub Review: Dr. Stone “Beyond the New World”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Senku and friends make it home, eager to use the Medusa to petrify Tsukasa and then revive him shortly after. And it seems they only have one shot at it as the power of the device has nearly run out, with no clue on how to recharge it. Fortunately it works and Tsukasa is revived and informed of the plan to fly to the moon, though the Medusa is fully tapped out. Senku maintains his scars, so everyone uses war paint to replicate theirs until they revive everyone. With that, everyone plans on a globetrotting tour around the world, reviving people as they go and repopulating cities, eventually bringing everyone back. Despite some concerns about possibly reviving some bad guys, the gang start their mission, starting with heading to America to get all that corn for fuel.
OUR TAKE
Dr. Stone capstones its third season with a long awaited return and a look towards the next season…which turns out will be the FINAL season, despite having over ninety chapters left to adapt! There are a few different ways they can handle that, the most likely one being cutting the season into chunks like they did this one, but we probably won’t know what the plan is for at least a year. In the meantime, let’s talk about how the New World came to an end. Treasure Island is in the rearview mirror, the gang is back in the Kingdom of Science, and they’re ready to formulate the next stage to both bring back everyone who’s still a statue AND make their maiden voyage to the final frontier. AND they’ve got unlimited revival fluid and a working petrification device, which Chrome dubs “the Dr. Stone Set”! Title Drop! A shame that it’s short lived, as the Medusa craps out after they use it on Tsukasa due to overuse by Ibara. The addition of the thing running out of power seems rather tacked on, especially since it had apparently been used pretty liberally the whole time Ibara and Soyuz’s dad had it, but I do see how having an easily usable petrification device could become a problem down the line.
For one, they don’t know who they could run into who may want to steal the device after seeing them use it, which would just be adding the same problems they just dealt with while fighting Ibara and his group. On top of that, the only real story purpose they had for getting it was to bring back Tsukasa, who has been absent all season after he was put on ice at the end of LAST season. But now he’s fully reformed AND healthy, meaning they’ll having a major strong guy, in addition to the other strong guys they have like Taiju and Matsukaze, who I guess is just…some guy now with knowledge of 200 years ago, for whatever that’s worth. Ryusui also gets a scene that I felt was worth mentioning, but not really worth getting into. And the next stop is the good ol US of A to get all of that delicious corn. For FUEL! And eating. And with that, that’s another Dr. Stone season in the books. Next time, we go over the whole thing again for the Season Review and get ready for 2024.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
