English Dub Review: Dead Mount Death Play “The Revenge/The Friends”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Revenge
Iwanome unmasks the traitor in the Metropolitan Police, but subduing them won’t be easy—and he isn’t the only one out for payback. An enigmatic new arrival may make things unexpectedly personal for the Corpse God.
The Friends
A surprise visit from an old friend prompts the Corpse God to rethink how he fits into his new world. His first step? An overdue confrontation with Xiaoyu. Meanwhile, Iwanome, Clarissa, and Solitaire pursue the same mystery in their own ways.
Our Take:
The detective duo has gotten their hands full regarding their attempt to apprehend Habaki while confronting a horde of mind-controlled employees. It also doesn’t help that Habaki has upgraded himself with steroid-enhanced drugs and sacrificed his daughter to find the Corpse God. However, from the looks of this episode, it seems like they aren’t the only ones struggling. As seen in the previous episode, we were introduced to another group of characters who also have their sights set on the Corpse God, and they appear that they don’t mess around like the Agakura clan. It’s also revealed that Habaki was in cahoots with the group, with one of its members being Habaki’s daughter, before getting killed by Clarissa’s assassins.
Considering Polka’s lack of screen time in the last couple of episodes, these episodes are a solid opportunity for the Corpse God to finally spring into action again. For starters, we start to delve even deeper into the Corpse God’s past while interrogating Habaki’s corpse. It was great to see the Corpse God using his necromancer abilities again, but it’s also nice to see more of his earlier days in his home world, in which his mentor resurrected him after being stabbed to death. Of course, this prompted the arrival of one of the Corpse God’s closest allies, His Imperial Majesty, resulting in Polka rethinking his approach to gaining a peaceful life. Amid the episodes’ other reveals, like Clarissa’s history with Hosorogi, the Corpse God also used his ability to form an alliance with Xiaoyu by giving him a dragon arm to replace his broken one.
The series is continuing to get more exciting as we’re nearing the end of the show’s second half. More importantly, its two episodes are enough to make up for last week’s unannounced hiatus, which frustrated me due to the lack of reason. The Corpse God is slowly gaining more allies, with Xiaoyu being one of them, while his path is set on protecting them. But will it be enough to confront the many enemies lurking around?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
