English Dub Review: A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special “Crash; Showdown”

Overview

“Crash”

Desir and his team find themselves in the world of the Privius Clock Tower. They make it through the survival quest and come face to face with Blue Moon, Red Dragon, and Pine Tree parties.

“Showdown”

Desir and his team have finally faced the Blue Moon party for the chance to become single-rankers. Azest puts a stop to Desir’s plan of pitting the alpha parties on each other, but Desir has another plan. And he asks Azest if she is having fun.

Our Take

Picking up from the “previous episode”, we now get a “double feature” of sorts as the story continues with the first half regarding Desir and his two “Beta” classmates against the other elite classes against each other. Desir & Romantica’s strategy of hiding inside the clock and launching attacks from there which succeeded in bringing all the other teams in what I can only describe as sort of a “mexican standoff”. with the exception of Azest and her team who caught on to what they were planning, and locked the others into her ice magic so they couldn’t interfere as her primary goal being to wipe out the Beta team from the course. It’s kind of an evil strategy, but not surprising from extremely arrogant and entitled douchebags. I don’t really understand why theres so much classism in this world, like they don’t already have bigger problems to worry about. The dude I hate the worst is that Doneta jerk who seems pretty damn unhinged and was incredibly vicious towards Romantica while spouting his bigotry after she previously turned him down for dating which is pretty damn petty…

As for the other episode, the fight escalates to Desir vs. Azest in the most intense showdown. He’s had his eye on her for most of his past life, as well as her ice powers which were also something that Desir already had experienced beforehand to outwit her and bring out her best. As for Pram and Romantica, thei respective fights with Doneta and Percival shows neither side is backing down during the proceedings since Desir’s relentless training…

Overall, these were nice episodes. It was great that professor Brigette got the last laugh and the gang made a new friend to train with. But I think this is going to be a tipping point because in the future I don’t Azest was on friendly terms with Desir in the previous timeline. I also really liked the bouts happening all at once but the pacing feels like it’s like reading the manga; it’s just too slow than necessary (also giving the characters enough time to chat like nothing is going on, or the way they were chatting, Romantica should’ve recovered her mana by now). But with the way that cliffhanger ended, we know this is very far from over…
