English Dub Review: The Apothecary Diaries “The Threat”

Overview:

Under direct orders from the emperor himself, Maomao tries to care for an ailing Concubine Lihua but finds her work impeded by Lihua’s own ladies-in-waiting.

Our Take:

It took me almost half the episode to realize that Concubine Lihua was the same concubine who refused Maomao’s help in one of the first episodes. Her son’s death was because of not listening so she feels she’s been cast aside but it seems like that won’t be the case and now Maomao has a new fan. Not to mention the fact that the Emperor himself asked Maomao to take care of Lihua. That means the Emperor has taken notice of Maomao and he must still care for Lihua if he wants her to be taken care of.

I’m a big fan of series like this because I love history and while it’s not always historically accurate it’s still fun to see some different time periods represented. When it comes to history I have to say that one of the areas I know the least about is Chinese history so I look forward to shows like this. As I said it’s not always super accurate but at the very least it drives interest and gets you to do some research on your own in a lot of cases. Learning new things is never a bad thing and this series has given me a lot to learn about.
