English Dub Review: The Ancient Magus’ Bride “Coming events cast their shadows before.”

Overview:

Despite their disappointment that the College will be closed through Christmas, the students try and prepare for the holiday party. Chise takes another dive into Lucy’s memories. Philomela reaches her breaking point.

Our Take:

I know we were all hoping that things would finally be getting better for Philomela but as it turns out things are going to get worse first. If they end up getting better at all I might not understand the magical system in this world completely but I think once you turn into a tentacle monster that is pretty much permanent. It seems that Philomela wants to die to be with her parents, which is one of the saddest things I’ve heard in this series.

The next episode is going to decide how this season ranks for me I think. I understand that not everything can be sunshine and rainbows, especially in a series like this, but I want to see Philomela at least have a little happiness in her life. Chise is one of the ultimate meddlers so I’m hopeful that Philomela being this tentacle creature isn’t as permanent as it seems, she deserves to know that living isn’t a curse.
