English Dub Review: Jujutsu Kaisen “Fluctuations”

Overview:

Mei Mei and Ui Ui fight the Special-Grade Disease Curse summoned by whatever is pretending to be Suguru Geto. Meanwhile, Nanami joins up with Maki and Naobito, but they encounter a cursed spirit with unknown powers.

Our Take:

Yes, that is actually a line that Maki says in this, hearing her call a cursed spirit “octobitch” was something I didn’t expect but it made me love Maki even more than I already did. The fight scenes in this are top notch and I think any series is going to have a hard time topping this one. Though it does make me wonder when we’re going to get a second season of Chainsaw Man. Naobito going off about frame rates in animation while being an animated character was going to be an interesting fourth wall break to me but then I learned how his power worked and it made sense.

Real quick tip or disclaimer whatever you want to call it. If you are watching the anime only you should be careful googling character names because it is way too easy to get things spoiled. Be careful out there.

I love this series I really do but there’s this underlying fear that maybe it isn’t for me. This is technically a Shonen series but one thing that classic series like Bleach, Naruto, Dragonball Z, and One Piece have in common is that there is no doubt that the main character isn’t going to die. Well for the most part… some of those haven’t ended yet technically but tell me you wouldn’t be surprised if Goku or Luff died. What I’m getting at is that I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, every single character we care about is dead. That isn’t necessarily a problem but when I watch a Shonen series I’m usually looking for something a little more lighthearted. But maybe now that I know a little bit more of what to expect that might change. Next week is going to be amazing because it looks like we’re going to see more Toji Fushiguro.
