Our Take
We’ve needed an episode of Family Guy to really go after a celebrity for quite a while now. Once a trademark of the show’s classic yesteryear, the increasing fame of the show’s cast, most notably Seth MacFarlane, has seen Family Guy’s once trademark style of grilling famous people turn into a thing of the past. This week’s episode of the series takes aim at Tom Selleck.
No, the real Tom Selleck doesn’t voice his own character, but that doesn’t matter, we still got a rip-roaring premise that was wildly original and loaded with laughs. Having Mayor West as part of the trip was an interesting choice, I think if we really wanted to go with the classic mustache asshole clique I’m not sure Mr. Peterschmidt wouldn’t have made for a better candidate, but all-in-all, I really can’t complain.
Stewie and Brian’s premise was a bit more cliche and I really abhor plots with a stupid contest, but with THIS stupid contest we got color commentary that really had me going and largely saved the bit.
Last, but not least, the cutaways left a lot to be desired. Perhaps the Meghan Markle/Prince Harry bit would have been funnier if South Park didn’t JUST annihilate them not too long ago that went so nuts it made national news.
This week’s episode of Family Guy had quite a bit of meat on it, though, I think if the ‘B’ plot were removed we would have been better served with an episode that could’ve benefited from more Tom Selleck savagery.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
