English Dub Season Review: The Duke of Death and His Maid Season Two
Overview:
As the Duke, Alice, and their friends enjoy spirited days filled with the ridiculous affairs of the supernatural, the spring deadline looms heavily over them. Nonetheless, the Duke refuses to take any shortcuts in this endeavor if it means betraying the trust of his cherished friends.
Our Take:
There’s only one knock I have on this show and that is the animation style. It’s not bad by any means and there has been way worse CGI anime out there but it is a bit odd. Having said that it’s not nearly bad enough to ruin my enjoyment of such a fantastic anime.
If you know me at all you would know that the characters in a series are what really do it for me. You can have the best story in the world but if the characters are one note and bland it’s not going to do you any favors. We were introduced to a few characters in season one but in this season they really get an opportunity to shine. The Duke and Alice got most of the focus in season one but in this season we get a lot of Cuff and Zain, and the “villains” even get a lot of screentime with Daleth and Walter.
Something interesting happened with all these characters that I think makes a romance anime work best. With his curse, it’s going to be hard to have any romantic progression but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any with the rest of the cast. If you’re looking for some of that and even some new developments you are in luck with this season.
Having a real-life couple voice the main couple is a genius decision in my opinion. Having Clifford Chapin and Kristen McGuire voice the Duke and Alice respectively is just great. You can feel the chemistry between the two and it seems it might become more of a thing that studios practice. The recent announcement of a Lovely Complex dub has a lot of couples in it.
I can’t recommend this anime enough, it has become one of my favorite romance anime. While this season doesn’t conclude the story I have great news in that regard. This anime has already been given the go-ahead for a third season. We should see it sometime in 2024 which if I’m not mistaken will be a little bit less of a wait than from season one to two.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
