English Dub Season Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend Season Three

Overview:

The crowdfunding for the amateur film starring Chizuru gets underway! Now Kazuya just needs to be the producer she needs to honor her grandparent’s dream.

Our Take:

I feel like I’ve already written way more about this series than I would like to but that’s the nature of the job, they can’t all be great shows. But while I would argue that some of the worst anime I’ve ever watched were Skate-Leading Stars and King’s Game at least those shows had the decency to only have one season. Meanwhile, here is the third season of Rent-a-Girlfriend, but there was already confirmation of a new season when the last season aired and that wasn’t the case here so maybe the witch is finally dead.

The interesting thing is that the voice cast they got for this anime is fantastic. Aleks Le is one of my favorite VAs but not even he can salvage the character of Kazuya. Kazuya is one of the worst rom-com main characters I’ve ever seen.

Lizzie Freeman brings the character of Chizuru to life and I really do like her voice. This was one of the first things I heard her in but I think the best role that I’ve heard so far has to be as Chisato from Lycoris Recoil. I would say Chizuru is one of the better characters in the show but like my previous statement, good performances don’t save this show.

I would argue that you should come to a reviewer to get an idea of whether you might like something or not. Listen, my opinion is not the end all be all of anime taste but I’ve watched a lot of anime and I would like to think that most of it is pretty good. Nothing is worse than wasting your time watching a bad anime but at least in most of those cases, you are only wasting twelve episodes worth of time (If you don’t drop it altogether) in this case, it would be a lot more if you want to stick it out. I can’t tell you enough times to avoid this anime at all costs, even for the most ardent of rom-com or harem anime enjoyer, you’re not going to get enough of either in this series to make it worth it.
