English Dub Review: The Misfit of Demon King Academy “The Land of Demons Without a Demon King”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Anos and the others continue their investigation in Aharthern. Although he wasn’t able to switch his source as Avos Dilhevia as the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos receives an important hint from Leno. Lay engages in practicing swordsmanship with Shin. After this, Anos follows after Erdomaid to Delsgade. There, they encounter Demons who were ruling over humans.

Our Take:

The return of the series’s second season got off to a welcoming start last week with some heartfelt moments between Leno and her bodyguard, Shin. Oh, and Anos and the others are present as well. But there’s still more work for them to accomplish to save Anos’s past. According to the fairies, that starts with the Blaze Death King Erdomaid, who’s seemingly still alive and kicking after his confrontation with Shin. I guess even a decapitation from the bodyguard isn’t enough to slow that demon down.

Beforehand, the episode’s first half is spent on Anos receiving information from Leno about the spirits’s fates involving rumors and traditions. There’s basically more to this than what I can gather, but like the previous episodes, the expedition goes by so fast that it’s challenging for me to remember everything the characters mentioned. While I’m still intrigued about its world-building, it’s easy for me to realize that it’s better to watch the show rather than explain what’s happening. Afterward, we get a brief moment involving Lay sparring with Shin, who shows off his magic disabling spell and bladeless art technique, allowing him to harm Lay despite his blocked attack. From the looks of that sword technique Shin performed on Lay, it almost reminded me of the time-traveling sword Fukuchi used in Bungo Stray Dogs.

After that, the episode starts to pick up a bit, with Anos and Misha traveling to Delsgade to find Erdomaid. There, Misha learns about the god, Militia, who created the world that Anos vows to protect from death and violence. Additionally, they come across Egarith, a young child related to the human king who’s nearly beaten to death by the demon guard. Thankfully, Anos managed to rescue Egarith and made the demon king come to his senses, even though his actions might’ve slightly changed the timeline.

Overall, this is another episode with plenty of expedition to pay attention to, but they managed to advance the plot rather than stalling it. It’s nice to see more of Anos’s strive to protect the world he helped create with Militia. More importantly, he’s returned to his original adult state after spending the past couple of episodes in his child form, thanks to the Magic Sword of Destruction. Hopefully, that’ll give Anos a better chance to complete his latest mission with his friends.
