Our Take

Picking up from the season one finale, the secretive syndicate led by Cid known as “Shadow Garden” informs Cid that large amounts of money have been flowing into what is known as the Lawless City. In a nutshell, it’s a crime-infested ghetto that belongs to no kingdom. This coincides with the Red Moon heralding the return of the prothetic Elizabeth a Vampire blood queen who is one of Lawless City’s three rulers. Cid decides to investigate since he has plans to go there anyway.

Later on, Cid is visiting Lawless City with Claire, who had been sent by the Dark Knight Association to slay vampires, and dragged Cid with her. They also pass Goldy and Quinton, who recently got their asses kicked and sold to a slavery due to losing earlier to Elizabeth’s toughest guard dog known as “White Devil”. But it’s here when shit gets real as the city’s vampires send their ghoul servants to raise hell. In the process, Cid is saved by Mary the Ancient Vampire Hunter and is excited to meet her despite how brief the meeting was. And Skel and Po (the problematic comic relief duo) just so happen to be in the middle of this chaos while in their endless quest to lose their virginities to prostitutes. As Shadow, Cid saves a prostitute named Marie. Claire encounters Mary and after some confusion regarding Cid’s description, and believes he was taken as a sacrifice to awaken Elizabeth. Cid while still under his Shadow persona rescues the surviving Dark Knights, the rest having deserted from fear of the ghouls. The city’s other two rulers, Yukime the White Fox Spirit and Juggernaut the Black Tyrant, attack each other but are interrupted by Cid who makes one hell of an entrance…

Overall, I liked how they didn’t waste any time with the obligatory recap you’d come to expect when it comes to setting up another season for newbies. The abnormal happenings at Lawless City, also feel more like the true mystery behind the folks turning into vampires, for reasons unknown. And good for Cid, who has to make a minimal effort this time around to slip past any of his people to visit Lawless City, I mean he and Claire visited the place eventually, even if it felt like Clair was dragging his ass all over the place. And finally the newly introduced characters could make things a bit more interesting, and the new situations that pre-existing characters are in such as Skel and Po’s endless quest to not be virgins at least gave me a chuckle or two even if to got a bit cringey…
