English Dub Review: The Dangers in my Heart “Karte 6: I Melted it”

Overview

As Kyotaro wrestles with his feelings, he notices Anna’s been acting differently. Could it be that she—? No, he shouldn’t read too much into it. She’s just being nice. Right?

Our Take

In the aftermath of Anna’s missed train, Kyotaro shoulders the blame, not only alleviating Anna’s guilt but also coaxing a smile from her. Dynamics shift as Anna cryptically raises the question of classmates dating, leaving a lingering curiosity. Meanwhile, Kana notices Kyotaro’s newfound enjoyment of school. A surprising turn occurs when Anna, flustered yet determined, waits outside school to fulfill her promise of lending Kyotaro a manga series, leading to an unexpected and somewhat awkward encounter in the library.

Later on, Kyotaro gets more disgusted by Adachi’s douchey attitude more so than usual because there is more to liking Anna for shallow reasons. Realizing this he once again wonders if he’s actually in love. But in an unexpected twist, a “no-eating rule” is finally signposted in the library so Kyotaro worries Anna will stop visiting. But thankfully that doesn’t stop Anna. But when a teacher almost catches her, Kyotaro grabs her hand to hide the evidence. Anna tells him to go away (to lick the melted chocolate in her hands) and he wonders if he has ruined everything by grabbing her, yet the ending was fun yet unexpected…

Overall, this episode was well-directed and storyboarded. The growing connection between Kyotaro and Anna is portrayed with endearing charm, reflecting Kyotaro’s gradual acceptance of his feelings. Yet his discomfort at the mention of Anna in a certain way underscores the sincerity of his emotions. It’s also clear that Kyotaro’s sister is subtly detecting something different about him, but I guess that remains to be seen what that will lead towards later on.
