English Dub Review: Goblin Slayer “An Ordinary Spring Day”

Overview:

Priestess is worried about the possibility of ranking up and Goblin Slayer encounters a strange bespectacled boy.

Our Take:

Of course, they had to show THAT scene from the first season. I understand that they know controversy gets more views but that was still hilarious to me. I remember a whole group of people refused to watch this series all because of the first episode. Don’t get me wrong it’s a rough watch and should have been accompanied by a trigger warning but outside of the first episode there is nothing nearly as graphic. What goblins do is referenced to be sure but other than that it’s not shown, I believe the writer or studio had a good reason as well. Goblins are often portrayed as nothing but cannon fodder, the first monster you fight in any RPG. The stakes shown in the first episode let you know right off the bat that goblins are a real threat.

As for the episode itself, I think we are going to be in for some fantasy fun. I would say that the first season of Goblin Slayer is required viewing for sure and potentially the movie as well. I don’t think this is a good jumping on point because all of the characters are established and it is assumed you understand the nature of their relationships and the party. Goblin Slayer is trying to teach a young adventurer about killing goblins but as most young people tend to do he doesn’t listen. I have a feeling that this might be a key new character. Goblin hunting season is back! Just in time for Halloween.
