English Dub Review: The Great Cleric “Training with the Paladin Regiment”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Luciel starts to doubt his fighting skills after clearing the boss room on the tenth level, so he asks to train with Lumina and the Valkyrie Paladin Regiment. After clearing the twentieth level, he meets the pope again to learn more about the wights.

Our Take:
For a level-one healer, Luciel has done well in making this much progress in his new Adventurers Guild. He even got himself a magic sack to help him gather more resources than usual. Of course, that doesn’t mean his fighting techniques have improved despite wielding his sword and spear to back him up. So, Luciel decides to undergo heavy training with Lumina and the Paladins to ensure his survival in the dungeon’s later levels.
After exploring the 15th floor, the episode showcases Luciel going through another series of severe training routines with the Paladins, who are all women. Unsurprisingly, this is similar to the earlier episodes in which Luciel undergoes harsh physical training with Brod. If you’ve been catching up with the series now, you’ll immediately realize that things aren’t going well for Luciel in this episode. Luciel can barely catch up with the Paladins’ fitness routines, and he’s been losing every duel he participated in due to the Paladins’ Double Infinity techniques allowing them to create illusions. That is until he realizes that he’s helpful in defense and healing while working in teams, and his duel-wielding techniques leave him wide open.
As usual, this is another episode showcasing Luciel going through hell and back during his training, filled with his goofy reactions and epic fail moments. However, his grueling days of heavy training paid off, as he used his newly developed skills to defeat the level 20 Wight. It’s a shame we don’t see his expertise in action, which is quite unfortunate. That would’ve set the bar high for Luciel’s growth and the show’s narrative.
Luckily, the episode compensates for that issue with new information from the pope regarding the labyrinth. In addition to the level 20 wight being a High Priest, we learn that the people who disappeared in that stinky maze have been turned into wights, and it was once a tranquil cemetery for deceased healers. But there is one solution to defeat the labyrinth for good, which is the core hidden within the maze. Since the other warriors failed to get to it because of the stench, the church relies on unprepared healers to tackle the job and prevent the zombies from escaping. The episode may have the same structure as Luciel’s training days in Maritoni City, along with a few rushed moments. However, the added information about the mysterious labyrinth helps signify bigger things ahead for the healer.
