English Dub Review: My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1 “The Arrival of Alice”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Ryota and the others move into a bigger house to help Celeste counteract the effects of the Magic Storm. Afterward, the Ryota Family recruits the newest group member, Alice, a young, cheery girl with a surprisingly low max level.

Our Take:
With the series’s first season possibly drawing to a close, it doesn’t hurt to have at least one more member joining the Ryota Family. Based on the member’s name alone, it would’ve been enough to make the show more “curiouser and curiouser”. You know, because her name’s Alice and her last name is Wonderland. Sadly, that isn’t the case. After watching the previous episodes, it’s pretty evident that the series isn’t going to get more curious as we’re nearing its end.
Beforehand, the Ryota Family finally managed to get a big guild house of their own when the Magic Storm caused some side effects to Celeste, including throbbing headaches. Thankfully, their new home is powerful enough to block the storm’s effects. However, it also comes with a hefty monthly payment, so as usual, the gang embarks on another dungeon grind to earn some dough. Their quest takes them to Telulu Level 7, a snow-level dungeon where they fight several fire slimes that become invincible when nearing death. They defeat them all through teamwork, including the rare fire blue slime that drops a slime tear crystal that reflects attacks.
The episode also sees Ryota learning magic after acquiring a seed from a red skeleton that increases his MP. He and Celeste bought a magic fruit to do so, but of course, they let it turn into a metal version of Ryota to gain a more powerful fruit. As a result, Ryota learns Wind Cutter magic and the most reliable spell, Reservation, in which the party can share Rank S drops and experience points together.
Finally, we have Ryota encountering Alice, a young peppy girl looking for a party to join. However, she has a difficult time finding one because her max level can only go up to level two, and no one wants a level two member in their party. That is until Ryota steps in to take her under his wing, which is good since she came close to joining the party of the selfish adventurer from episode two. While grinding, Alice gained some unexpected allies, including Bonsey, a tiny skeleton, and Jiggly, the slime.
As expected from an isekai series, Ryota has another member to add to his harem collection, much to Celeste’s delight after seeing Alice’s adorable companions. Aside from that, it’s typically another slice-of-life episode involving them grinding in dungeons and leveling up skills. I only have myself to blame for always expecting something interesting out of its tried-and-true formula. Although, there’s really nothing interesting about this show aside from its charming yet basic characters. But at least Ryota and his team gained a new member who’s named after the main character from Lewis Carroll’s children’s book, so there’s that.
