English Dub Review: Liar, Liar “Good Night”

Overview:

The ASTRAL competition begins, but Shinohara’s team is not on the same page.

Our Take:

It’s time for the ASTRAL competition. Shinohara’s team is starting off strong in the actual competition, but not everybody’s getting along. Specifical, there’s dissention between Enomoto and Nanase. There’s a lot at stake in this event, so Shinohara needs to find a way to pull his team together.

Someone posing as Sarasa Saionji makes a challenge to Shinohara and the other Saionji. She gives them terms according to whether they win or lose. She also threatens to tarnish Saionji’s reputation if they refuse, which leaves them with no choice but to accept.

Shinohara also meets a girl who is definitely a chuunibyou. Shinohara asks her about her red eye. She starts to say she’s wearing a colored contact, but then she claims she has magic powers. That character type is hit or miss for me. We haven’t seen much of her yet, so I can’t form an opinion yet. She seems nice so far and Shinohara’s very nice to her. However, she seems a little suspicious to me.

This episode feels a little uneventful to me. They’re definitely progressing the plot, but the episode is mostly talking with barely any action. Since Liar, Liar involves playing games, I want to see the characters actually play games. When the episodes are mostly made up of exposition, it’s just not as exciting.
