English Dub Review: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War “I Am the Edge”

Overview:

Yune and Yachiru, who are treating Kensai and others, are attacked by Gwenael, an exterminator who has the ability to erase not only his appearance but also the memory of his opponent at will. Yachiru repeats the “first meeting”.

Our Take:

Up until now in Bleach I’m not sure that we’ve ever seen Yachiru get a full fight scene. I had a feeling that she was hiding some serious power but she really showed up to fight Gwenael. Some of these Sternritter powers are starting to seem really unfair. Being able to be completely imperceptible to those around you is one thing but they also don’t even remember you? That’s ridiculous, but then comes along a guy who can essentially make anything he imagines come true. If you cut his arm off all he has to do is imagine that it’s still there and it is. I’ve watched a lot of shonen anime and these might be some of the most broken powers I’ve seen.

But no one in anime is more broken than Kenpachi Zaraki. At this point I don’t even know how Ichigo “beat” him when he did. Kenpachi is the ultimate badass and the way he won the fight against Gremmy Thoumeaux just proves it. As I mentioned, Gremmy can imagine essentially anything he wants so he finally decided to imagine that he was as strong as Kenpachi. The fatal flaw was that the only body that can handle Kenpachi’s power is Kenpachi’s.

If you love the universe of Bleach then I have some great news for you. Tite Kubo’s other work Burn the Witch, has another anime that just got announced. Granted it’s a prequel that takes place before the original Burn the Witch but if you love this universe that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
