Review: Rick and Morty #7 (2023)
Overview
Despite saving the world from near catastrophe and doing away with hyper tech bro Glug Vronsky, Rick and Morty aren’t out of the woods just yet! The Goldenfolds, Noelle, and a host of weird gods have escaped Anti Hala, and they seem kinda mad at Rick for sending them there. Can Noelle truly forgive Rick and Morty?! Will the Goldenfolds take over the world?! Are we asking too many questions?! Plus: A extra-added bonus story by Harvey Award nominee Rafer Roberts (Archer & Armstrong)!
Our Take
The main story for the ongoing comics series is starting to wane thin in terms of anything exciting going on, but the story from Rafer Roberts might be worth the cost of the this issue just by itself. We almost get a silly send-up of the franchise that Steve Levy is about to ruin and it might be the perfect time for it.
Alex Firer is trying to build his own little Rick and Morty universe here with callbacks to some of the other books that he’s written while Oni shelved the ongoing series which is an interesting idea, but you have to care enough about those other books to really get the callbacks and I’m not sure there’s enough going on with the Goldenfold plot right now that really has me invested. Hopefully, the next couple of issues can change that.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
