English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “Title Match!! The Tomo-1 Queen Contest”

Overview:

The finalists have different motives. Lum wants Ataru’s attention, Ran wants to get in Lum’s way, Shinobu and Sakura want the money, and Ryunosuke has something to prove.

Our Take:

This episode was alright because once again Ataru wasn’t the main focus and he wasn’t doing his womanizing ways. I mean he was but to a lesser extent than usual. Of course, we got a contest between the women but it definitely wasn’t a “beauty” contest. It was fun and enjoyable but the last few episodes might have been too little too late. It has been renewed for a second part which will air in 2024. Boy, I sure can’t wait to review that one too…

Seeing how everyone tried to get ahead and then be forced to work together was funny. I would have to say that the episode’s highlight was Lum and Ataru almost having a moment but of course, it got interrupted. I hope that when it comes time for the second part we finally get some character development because as things stand right now that is the most disappointing part about this series. The characters are also not the most well-written bunch I’ve seen which leads to that but we will see how things fare.
