English Dub Review: The Great Cleric “The Healing Clinic and the Arrival of Bottaculli”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
It’s been a year, and Luciel needs to renew his registration at the Healer’s Guild. What rank will he be? Luciel jumps into the next level of his training when he encounters the Healer who left Monika to die…

Our Take:
Luciel may not have mastered his martial arts skills yet, but he has been improving his healing magic for the past year. For the latter, he might eventually have enough power to heal everyone. However, he still has a long way to go if he wants to survive to help people. But first, he has to renew his registration at the Healer’s Guild. After Kururu’s shocked reaction toward his progression and learning about the healing ranks, Luciel is welcomed back into the Adventurer’s Guild for another year of training, thanks to Brod.
Amid the humorous conversations between Luciel and the adventurers and another round of training, the episode further showcases the flawed system for healers. The previous episode referenced Bottaculli, the head of his own healing clinic responsible for hiring the assassins to attack Monika. This episode has the greedy healer front and center as he visits the guild to convince Luciel to work for him. Of course, Luciel refuses because he believes healers should help people instead of hurting them for their selfish gain, which unsurprisingly pissed Bottaculli off.
It’s also revealed that Bottaculli possesses high-heal magic compared to Luciel’s cure spells. However, he only charges a higher price to perform this procedure on an injured adventurer. To further display his greedy nature, Bottaculli even sells his guests with minor injuries to slavery to earn a few extra coins. Fortunately, Bottaculli got what he deserved as Bord kicked him and his bodyguards out of the guild. However, since Luciel is now targeted for standing up to Bottaculli, he has to undergo Spartan training, with him being promoted as Bord’s apprentice.
Despite my low interest in the show’s isekai formula, the episode shows that it’s attempting to revitalize itself through its portrayal of beliefs, particularly for healers. While Bottaculli uses healing magic for selfish and ravenous purposes, Luciel uses it out of the kindness of his heart, not for money. It is uncertain whether it’ll have a big payoff near the end, but I hope it is for my sake. Until then, we’re stuck with Luciel training his heart out again while Bottaculli plans something big for the healer.
