English Dub Review: Sweet Reincarnation “Honey for Sweets, and a Reservoir for the Villages”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Pas has an idea to get himself more honey for baking, but it’ll require the use of a new power. Meanwhile, Count Retes learns of Hubarek’s most recent political machinations and gets a few ideas of her own.
Our Take:
Pastry’s sudden engagement to Licorice has been met with excitement and shock, with the latter being from Casserole’s wife Agnes, who thought Casserole was having an affair. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with this announcement. In fact, one of them is downright furious by Hubarek’s marriage arrangement, and that is Count Retes. Retes believes that Hubarek is using his daughters’ marriages to gain enough political influence to surpass her in royalty. Retes has no daughter to marry Pastry and is too old to be engaged to him, which is good because that would be gross. So, being the cunning countess she is, Retes conjures up a plan to ensure she stays in power and possibly get revenge on Pastry for embarrassing her.
Amid the episode’s political conversations, we finally see Pastry take a break from fighting to focus on his preferred talent: baking. This time, he, along with Marc and Lumi, is on a quest to retrieve a substitute for honey, nectar. The nectar is produced by the Black Locust saplings from trees that survive in poor soil, which Pastry received from Lord Kadlececk. To get more nectar, Pastry attempts to construct the reservoirs to store rainwater by using his tunneling spell, Escavate, copied from the mercenary chief. Sadly, his magic flattened one of the mountains, resulting in Casserole performing one of his hissy fits toward Pastry, Marc, and Lumi. Considering that Casserole was previously happy that his farms were profitable, it’s upsetting yet mildly amusing that he allowed another one of Pastry’s shenanigans to ruin his good mood.
The episode sees the series allowing Pastry to perform a task involving his dreamtopia filled with sweets. But, of course, it doesn’t forget about the politics that resonated from Pastry’s engagement and Count Retes. The two elements may not be enough to elevate the isekai series, but at least it still attempts to have the sweets be involved in some capacity, mainly those made from honey. After all, the show is called Sweet Reincarnation for a reason. In addition to being invited by Retes to a tea-tasting ceremony, Pastry also gets a surprise visit from Licorice, who’s moving in with him and his family. Based on his hilarious expression at the end, I assume that’ll lead to more challenges he must overcome to achieve his sweet dream.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
