English Dub Review: Sweet Reincarnation “Beloved Smiles and Baked Treats”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
With the kidnapping incident resolved, Casserole and Pastry seek to use the fallout to their advantage however they can. But the Duke and Margrave have similar ideas…

Our Take:
The season’s second half commences with Pastry and Casserole securing an easy victory over the disgraced Duke’s mercenaries. After arresting Armire, Pastry managed to subdue the mercenary chief, Strudel, by sabotaging his sword with Pastry’s replication magic, which he used to replicate the cracks on the wall onto Strudel’s sword. They resolved this predicament before the engagement between Squale and Petra became public a month later. But, of course, that doesn’t mean all is well for the two uniting kingdoms.
According to Pastry’s theory, someone was working with the mercenaries to ensure Armire was dealt with by kidnapping Licorice. That someone is Lord Kadlececk, who delivered misleading information to the mercenaries so they would kidnap the wrong daughter. Kadlececk later admits his wrongdoing and offers to finance improvements to Casserole’s farmlands. This makes their attempt to rebuild their home much easier when combined with the possible payment earned from Pastry’s matchmaking idea. However, with one problem gone, another one arises, which is unsurprising regarding the series’s narrative pattern. With Petra engaged to Squale, it’d make sense for Lord Hubareck to try to give her twin sister the same treatment. What better man for Licorice to be engaged to than the sweet lover himself, Pastry?
Considering Licorice’s affection towards Pastry’s kindness, this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. However, that doesn’t make the episode less humorous when Hubareck manages to trick the young trickster into an engagement with Licorice. Pastry has been doing his part in comforting the shy princess for the past two episodes, and now that he’s engaged to her, he’ll have to work extra hard to make her happy. Of course, that would include trying Licorice’s cookies, in which she mistakenly used salt instead of sugar. I haven’t tried cookies made with salt, but based on Pastry’s concealed reaction, I should be lucky that I didn’t. It would be interesting to see how the characters’ dynamic will be affected in later episodes now that the two love birds are engaged.
