English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Filming and Girlfriend”

Overview:

Filming for the movie begins, and seeing her act in the flesh, Kazuya realizes that Chizuru exists in a whole different dimension from him. Meanwhile, Mini is hatching a plot of her own.

Our Take:

I’ve met some pretty socially awkward people in my life but everyone in this anime takes the cake. I don’t know how many more weeks I can keep beating the dead horse that is Kazuya’s cringeyness. Like I’ve been there, I know how hard it is to tell someone how you really feel but just SAY it. Most of these dumb situations could be resolved with a simple conversation. I know that is how a lot of comedies work but this takes it to a ridiculous level. It’s just so frustrating for me to see this dude continue to be the most annoying character ever. The funniest part of the episode was some bystanders calling Chizuru a rental girlfriend and Kazuya going “Oh wow they were right this time”. Normally I hate all the comments people make about Chizuru but that one was funny.

Chizuru and Kazuya are going to spend at least one night alone together so we need to have some progress soon. I think one of my main issues with this series is the fact that I read the manga up to a certain point and I just know that a lot of the issues are going to persist and persist for a long time. But to be fair I don’t remember a lot of it and maybe it was a bit better than I remember.
