English Dub Review: Reign of the Seven Spellblades “Soldier”

Overview:

The new students find themselves trapped in Kimberly at night, with two powerful upperclassmen out to recruit them dead or alive.

Our Take:

This is an anime that I really hope takes off because I want more and more of it. The characters are interesting and from what I read of the first light novel this could really be something interesting. From a world-building standpoint, it hits all my buttons so far because I love the magic school setup but with some Asian flare. That flare comes in the character Nanao who I think will become a fan favorite of the season.

Things aren’t looking great for our heroes at the beginning of the episode because it seems like their about to be murdered by their upperclassmen. Turns out that a magical school where twenty percent of the students die isn’t super safe. Nanao believes she found a place to die and then some other upperclassmen showed up to save the day. See? It’s give and take at Kimberly Academy.

Nanao has friends that care about her so when everyone is discussing why she wants to die it creates a bit of a problem in the friend group. Luckily, they all convinced her to find something to live for and it seems like one of those things might be love. She said one of the best lines saying that “Whether it was the blade or the person, love is the same” which I loved. As a romance fan, this one has become high on my list.
