English Dub Review: Reign of the Seven Spellblades “Arise”

Overview:

Oliver and Nanao battle a powerful mage with an enchanted eye, and the true purpose of Oliver’s coming to Kimberly is revealed.

Our Take:

There were a couple of negatives I have to address first. The animation wasn’t quite as good as some of the earlier episodes. Not only that, I don’t know if it was the dialogue choice or just how it was delivered but some of the acting during the climactic battle felt a little lifeless.

I’ve seen some people talking about this show and how they don’t like it and it feels generic. I suppose that depends on what is generic to you. This is the closest I’ve seen to an anime version of Harry Potter. I love that, but I also like how most of the spell casting is done using a blade. Not only that but for me characters are king and the characters here are really enjoyable. I can’t think of a single character that I dislike other than the ones that we’re supposed to.

I’m aware that I do this way too often but once again I am going to discuss how amazing Ian Sinclair is. He plays a villain and it’s not the first time but this really showed off his range. The last villain I heard him as was a more silly villain and here he was more menacing. We unfortunately won’t get to hear him more for… reasons. But I still wanted to shout him out and I look forward to giving some more spoiler talk in next week’s review.
