English Dub Review: Liar, Liar “Silence and Change”

Overview:

The All-Campus Elimination Battle is over and the team has been selected for the upcoming May Inter-Academy Battle.

Our Take:

Shinohara helps Akizuki expose the devil she told him about as promise. This leads to that headmaster getting discharged. Also, Shinohara withdraws from the elimination battle, leaving Akizuki the winner. Afterwards, those two, Himeji, Nanase Asamiya, and Shinji Enomoto are selected as the representatives in the upcoming inter-academy battle.

They discuss strategy for the upcoming game. This quickly leads to some tension between Hiroto and Shinji, but it seems to be settled for now. When it comes time for the competition, that may be a different story.

We also get some fun scenes. Shinohara and Saionji have to pretend to be a couple. That’s the only way they can shop at a store that sells items like rare abilities. Himeji gets jealous and makes them take a bath together with her while wearing swimsuits. It’s a weird punishment, but it’s still amusing.

This is an episode that does more setting up than anything else. However, it mostly manages to keep my attention. Shinohara withdrawing was odd to me, but I understand his motives. I’m still not sure if I like Noa yet, but she’s not as bad as she used to be at least. The planning scene starts to lose me towards the end, but I’m curious to see how the team will hold together in the actual competition. Plus, there’s a reveal at the end of the episode that piques my interest.
