English Dub Review: My Happy Marriage “Our First Date”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
While Kiyoka takes Miyo out to town, he quickly notices that she behaves very differently from other wealthy daughters he’s encountered.
Our Take:
You can’t have an arranged marriage without having a first date. This episode is no different, with Kiyoka inviting Miyo for a relaxing day in town. With Miyo not having gone out of town before, it’s unsurprising that Yurie helped her look her best for a particular day like this, and let me tell you, she definitely looked great in her makeup and kimono.
The episode is basically Kiyoka and Miyo exploring the town, with Kiyoka buying Miyo a new kimono dress and them having a tasty treat at the sweets shop. However, it also displays more character development that’s undeniably sweet and will likely play a massive role in future episodes. We see more of Kiyoka being a generous fiancé to Miyo despite being bombarded by her self-doubt and his annoyance toward his obnoxious subordinate Yoshito Godo. He even gives her a comb as a gift, even though it signifies a marriage proposal, according to Yurie.
The episode also continues the confrontation between Miyo’s father and Kouji’s father, with the latter being pissed by Miyo’s father’s decision to send her to the Kudou family. They previously agreed that Kouji would marry Kaya if Miyo married the Tatsuishi family’s eldest son Kazushi. The reason is that Miyo’s birth mother is related to the Usuba family, making her a valuable wife for the Tatsuishi family to achieve despite her not having powers. However, the Saimori father sent her to a different family instead.
Was the father’s decision due to a small glimmer of light inside his cruel heart or purely out of his selfishness? That’s hard to tell, although I won’t be surprised if it’s the latter. Regardless, this reveal serves as another obstacle that’ll affect Miyo’s journey to live a happy life, which is starting to get really engaging storytelling-wise.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
