English Dub Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury “What We Can Do Now”

Overview: 

The Asticassia School of Technology has been devastated by Norea’s rampage. The surviving students are forced to live in evacuation shelters as they wait for relief.

Our Take:

We are starting to get into the “evil villain reveals their plan” part of the story. I had a lot of theories when it came to this series after watching the prologue. I was thinking that Elnora was Lady Prospera and yeah that one was obvious to everyone. I had a feeling she would want to get revenge but the way it is playing out is actually scary and I think that’s the point. I was prepared to be rooting for Prospera to get her revenge and to see some fun mindless mech battles. Well, Gundam doesn’t play that way. You’ll get what you want but you won’t like it.

Prospera being the main villain is an interesting “twist”, I put that in quotes because I don’t know if you would call it a twist per se but it wasn’t what I saw coming. But the main people that I thought were going to be the villains haven’t been relevant for a long time or are dead.

We got a few episodes left and I think it’s going to be crazy. Suletta might have a new Gundam to pilot and when she has to face off with her mom and sister I bet that will be a sight to see. My main issue with the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is how often I dislike their endings. I know that it’s trying to show the horrors of war and be bittersweet but would a happy ending be such a problem?
