Blu-Ray Review: South Park Seasons 21-25
Are you as mad as I am that we don’t know where to get the newest seasons of South Park thanks to the ridiculous back-and-forth lawsuits between Paramount+ and WB Discovery? Are you sick of WB Discovery even REMOVING episodes of South Park from its service on a pretty regular basis to reflect on the political correctness flavor-of-the-week? Then keep going the route of buying South Park on home release. By far the most important adult animated series on the air today, Paramount Media and MTV Entertainment continue to stay out of the way of the genius that is Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
Some might lament the fact that with this home release of seasons 21-25, that we’re getting shorter seasons of South Park post season 23, and we’ll focus on that in a bit. For now, you can treat seasons 21-22 like you would for prior South Park releases. Episode commentaries, deleted scenes, they are stacked for this. Season 23 the bonus material gets a bit more quaint removing episode commentaries for original artwork, and then seasons 24-25 getting no bonus material at all.
If you recall, seasons 24-25 were quite a bit shorter, checking in with only eight episodes total due to the fact that South Park released two made-for-TV movies in both 2021 and 2022, one of which has a home release of its own for South Park: Post Covid and South Park: The Streaming Wars which I’m expecting will get some sort of home release that may or may not come with the home release for the show’s 26th season, potentially later this year to coincide with SOMETHING new coming for the brand before 2023 lets out.
I’m also not thrilled with some of the labeling on the discs for the Blu-Ray. For starters, it’s hard to remember where any specific episodes are because there are no episode listings on any of the discs, so you kind of have to guess which is where. That said, nothing quite beats watching South Park uncensored, which is what you get when you get home releases. No streaming service trying to fuck with it, it’s here and ready for you to plug-and-play.
There are some things that need to be cleaned up for the packaging of South Park, but overall, South Park: Seasons 21-25 is mandatory collecting for South Park fans and anyone who wants unfiltered decadence from the likes of Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
